The buses' locations come from the trackers on board, through the Department for Transport's Bus Open Data Service, and the app checks them every 10 seconds. If no bus is reporting, the app says so: the Live button shows whether live data is coming through. Outside service hours (at weekends, overnight and in the breaks) there are no buses to show. If buses should be running, check that your iPhone is online; sometimes the trackers or the feed are simply down for a while, and the timetable still works.

It marks a live estimate. When the next bus to a stop is less than 10 minutes away, the app works out when it will actually arrive from where the bus is on its route, and shows the timetabled time next to it ("in 4 min · due 14:41"). An estimate can be off, as buses speed up and slow down, so be at the stop a few minutes early.

The timetable is the operator's, and they say its times are approximate. Times without the signal icon are timetabled times; check the bus on the map, or wait for the live estimate when it's close. If a stop's timetable looks wrong, write to us with the stop, the line and the time.

Finding your closest stop needs location access: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › UoP Bus, set to While Using the App, with Precise Location on. Without it, you can still find any stop with Find a stop, or star the ones you use as favourites.

Reminders are notifications, so check that UoP Bus may send them, in Settings › Notifications › UoP Bus, with Time Sensitive Notifications on so they get through a Focus. A reminder goes off 15 or 30 minutes before the departure you set it for; tap the bell on that departure again to change or cancel it.

Set a reminder on a departure: it starts a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, counting down to the bus. While UoP Bus is open, it follows the live estimate and shows how many stops away the bus is; when the app is closed, it keeps counting down to its last estimate. If it doesn't appear, find UoP Bus in the Settings app and turn on Live Activities.

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for UoP Bus. Closest Stop shows the nearest stop to wherever you are; Custom stop shows one you pick (touch and hold it, then Edit Widget). For the Lock Screen, touch and hold it, tap Customise, then the Lock Screen, and add one under the clock. Closest Stop needs location access set to While Using the App or Widgets.

The U1 and U2 run on weekdays in term time. At weekends, overnight and during the winter, spring and summer breaks, the app and its widgets say so, and tell you when the first bus back is.

A UoP Bus link or code can open the App Clip: a small part of the app that shows the buses and the timetables without installing anything. For favourites, reminders, widgets and Live Activities, get the full app from the App Store.

UoP Bus is for iPhone. On other phones, unib.us shows the buses on the web; it's a third-party site.

Your favourites and reminders are kept only on your iPhone: unstar a stop or cancel a reminder to remove it, or delete the app to remove everything. We hold no data about you. See the Privacy Policy for more, or write to us.
